Edited Arts is launching Beyond Shame, Any Second by DJ Meddle.

Beyond Shame, Any Second opens with a call and response, a melody relayed over a damaged line, altered by its journey. Throughout this debut EP, that broken signal is forged into jagged rhythms and raw club pressure.

Space defines Meddle's sound: skeletons of dance styles paused and peppered by deftly chosen samples and oddness. A love letter to Porto, echoes of London's dread. Chopped, ripped apart, fused back together, just enough and never too much.

Twenty Five Four features Ece Canlı, the Porto-based Turkish researcher and artist, soon to launch her debut album on local mainstay Lovers & Lollypops. Recorded in one enchanting take at Stop studios, Ece’s spectral voice glides out of a cadaverous instrumental, only to steer and bewitch it in the end

The thumbnail from the Ytube upload of The Ones - Absolutely Flawless is that emo-club picture of the woman with headphones on listening to a song looking really fallen, a swirl of light about her as if that is music itself or her own feelings made visible. It’s a thumbnail for a Traktor tutorial vid, or was it my 2010 HD desktop wallpaper? Wait that’s actually some private information… keep it to yourself please.

Meddle samples the word and it’s a good one: “correction”, and repeats it. It’s not that you or me or us if you’ll let me lump (us) together, need reminding of Absolutely Flawless for a smile, it’s that it’s actually quite difficult to cope with the day to day chronic loss of placeness, opportunity, collective spirit, when lyrics from tracks like these speak of things you’ve never experienced, or had said to you, which begs the Q’ who or what is flawless? Who’s shaming who? Am I the listener embarrassed to live a life not up to the sentiment of the song, or should u as the producer be uncomfortable to make me feel this way?

Meddle and Ece Canlı made a 15min track that is the exact opposite of a neon slow-shutterspeed glowstick swirl. It’s the royal gate music for the princeless, the loading music for a game about true bonds where the confidence to not be unspoiled is the mechanic.

These samples and sounds on here are special because they fit together not untouched but touched in this way. This isn’t music of extra loneliness for the already alone, or of shininess for the dull and lowly, it’s the music that says – “I’ll be there any second”– for you, and just for you.

I have been listening to this for a few days now. Every listen brings me new feelings and emotions. The artist has done a fantastic job curating lots of unusual sounds which harmonise powerfully. Speed is life is my favourite track as its raw drum energy is uplifting and hypnotic. Can't wait for the next release yann_da_man
